The Lalit Kala Akademi (National Academy of Art) is an autonomous body set up by the Govt. of India under the administrative control of the Ministry of Culture, for the promotion of Fine Arts (Drawing, Painting Sculpture, Ceramic, Graphic and other Contemporary Plastic Arts forms, like Installation, Digital and Media Arts and Photography) in the country.
The foundation stone of the Lalit Kala Akademi, Regional Centre, Bhubaneswar, was laid of by Shri J.B. Pattnaik, the then Chief Minister of Odisha, on 25th January, 1984, in the presence of Shri K.K Hebbar, the then Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. This Centre was inaugurated by ShriJ.B. Pattnaik, then Chief Minister of Odisha on 12th May, 1988.The first Regional Secretary of this Centre was Shri Bipin Bihari Sahu. The Centre is certainly located from the railway station (one Km. away) and is seven Km. from the Biju Patnaik Airport.
This Regional Centre is spread over a total land area of 2.44 acres and covers art-related programmes and artistic activities across the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
